Knowing the definition of Dye Sublimation Printing

THE DEFINITION OF DYE SUBLIMATION
Looking at the literal meaning – as it is defined in the science world – sublimation is the phase transition of a substance from a solid directly to a gas without going through a liquid phase occurring under specific temperature and pressure conditions.

OK. But how does this fit in to decorating thousands of products with a photo quality image? It helps if you approach this technology by looking first at the word dye. This technology involves a dye process. Hundreds of thousands of everyday products are decorated using colored dyes. Manufacturers of apparel, consumer packaging, consumer goods, electronics, etc., et al add dyes to color their products whether they're made of plastics, fabrics or woods. The dye process is often done at early stages before the individually decorated product components are assembled or sewn together.

As we are describing dye sublimation, the "solid" part of the equation denotes the microscopic particles of solid ink dyes which rest on the surface of your printed, ready-to-transfer sublimation page which you printed directly from CorelDRAW, Adobe PhotoShop or a rip program like Wasatch to a supported Epson, Ricoh, Mutoh or Mimaki sublimation printer. When introduced to heat, these solid ink particles turn directly to a gas which then permanently dye the decorated surface and sub-surface of your product, depending on whether it’s a textile or hard substrate.

THE SUBLIMATION DECORATION PROCESS
The first steps of sublimation decoration often involve the same tools used with other technologies like engraving, screen printing and embroidery. It is only after the final image is printed to paper when sublimation sets itself apart from all other technologies.

Here's the step-by-step process required to produce a sublimated product:
1. Design and customize a graphic specific to the final product using professional graphics software. Sublimation products showcase millions of colors utilizing high resolution, true photo quality images and any vector-based graphics and text.

2. Print the image to a supported inkjet printer using specialty sublimation inks on sublimation-friendly paper.

3. Face the printed image on the sheet to a sublimation-ready surface (e.g. polyester-based only). Some hard products like plaques and name badges will need to be taped using heat resistant tape. For soft substrates like t-shirts or mouse pads, the transfer can be "tacked" to the product using a light, repositionable adhesive spray available at any hardware, craft or super store, or by using a tacky sublimation paper, currently only available for wide format printers.

4. Place the product and sublimation print under a heat press. Each product type has its own formula for time, temperature and pressure for optimal decorating. The proper temperature usually hovers between 385° F to 400° F, time varies from 50 seconds for a Vapor Apparel t-shirt to over seven minutes for a glossy, ceramic tile.
5. The required pressure is usually "medium" or around 30-40 psi on a pneumatic press. You're looking for a solid marriage between the heated platen and the face of your sublimation transfer (where the solid ink dyes rest).

6. After the time expires, remove the product (using protective heat gloves is recommended when handling many sublimation products), tear away the transfer and admire the finished image.

How Can You Make Your Inkjet Sublimation Achieve The Best Effect ?

Hi, Nice to see you again. In the sublimation printing and transferring process, people always use the sublimation technology to transfer the patterns onto their clothes or fabric with vivid color. Then today I will share you some tips that can help you make your inkjet sublimation achieve the best effect.

Tip 1. Before you transfer your patterns onto the fabric with large quantity, you should better have a test with your sublimation paper and the heat press machine,So that you can make sure the temperature and time of the machine is the best for your pattern.
Tip 2. Before you transfer, make sure the sublimation paper with patterns is dry in case of the ghosting on your fabric.
Tip 3. Before the transfer, blow your fabric or textile, remove the fabric and transfer paper scraps, cilia and other attachments, so that these debris caught in paper and fabric caused by printing defects.
Tip 4. The ghost is often due to the pressure plate too fast separation, the upper pressure plate adsorption of ink jet sublimation transfer paper, then adjust the throttle to the plate heat transfer machine cylinder (or cylinder) to slow down the speed, to avoid Transfer of paper was sucked after the fall caused by the second sublimation transfer and ghosting. To avoid ghosting can also be dipped in the four corners of the thermal transfer paper adhesion of water transfer fabric.
Tip 5. As the floor of the cushion material (cotton, sponge, cardboard, etc.) in the
absorption of ink after the accumulation of moisture will lead to excessive water vapor when the transfer, so that the pattern on the transfer cloth color fades, local fog water, In the transfer before and during the transfer process to always empty a few times, the moisture on the cotton pad on the vapor evaporation, if the conditions can be replaced in time dry pad material to avoid this situation.

These all above are my share about the ways about how to make your inkjet sublimation achieve the best effect. If you have any needs or questions welcome to contact us at any time. We will provide you with the best quality product and service. Thank you for your reading.

Do You Know The Difference between The Sublimation Printing and Screen Printing in Application ?

Hi, Nice to see you again. In the printing industry, apart from the sublimation printing you also heard about the screen printing. Then how much do you know about it and do you know the difference between the sublimation printing and the screen printing. Then today I will have a introduction about it and tell you the difference between them.

Application of sublimation printing
Sublimation paper transfer print is widely used on polyester, satin and some other synthetic fibers. The sublimation dye actually penetrates the fibers and becomes part of the fabric. And nothing is felt! The high temperature during the printing also opens the pores of the polymer and allows the gas to enter. When the item is removed from the eat press, the temperature drops, the pores close and the gas reverts to a solid state. It has now become a part of the polymer. Sublimation print cannot be washed out or come off, unless the actual fibers or coating is damaged. This is why sublimation can't be done on natural materials, like 100 per cent cotton.Natural fibers and non-coated materials have no "pores"to open and so the dye just sits on top of the fabric.
Further, sublimation print is done on white substrates. The reason for this is because the inks are actually transparent, when sublimated, and need a back ground to show up. White is the ideal background because it does not clash with the colors. Indeed, the white background actually enhances the colors.

Comparison with screen printing

Dye-sublimation print with the sublimation paper and sublimation ink on polyester material does not affect the hand of the material and is more desirable than screen printing for home furnishing and wallpaper fabrics and the apparel industry. The colors are very vibrant, do not wash out and the process is less messy than screen printing, which requires messy solvents and dyes.

Sublimation is also very popular with sportswear manufacturers as many printed uniforms (cycle wear, soccer, basketball and lacrosse) on the market today are done via sublimation. Unlike screen printing, where the ink lays on top of the garment, the sublimation process produces permanent images that will not crack or fade. Also, sublimation infuses the image into the thread of the fabric so that it does not affect the breath ability of the garment. Most athletes prefer sublimated jerseys versus screen printing jerseys. Screen printing leaves a layer on top of the garment, which affects breath ability and the comfort of the athlete.

While the screen printing  through the squeegee squeeze, so that the ink through the graphic part of the mesh transferred to the substrate, the formation of the same as the original manuscript. Screen printing equipment is simple, easy to operate, printing, plate making simple and low cost, strong adaptability. Screen printing applications Wide range of printed materials are: color oil painting, posters, business cards, binding cover, commodity signs and printing and dyeing textiles. The most important difference is that the sublimation transfer paper can be generated and custom prints finished in a matter of minutes as opposed to screen printing, which requires lengthy time for preparation of the stencil and assembly of the mesh fabric.

These all above is my share about the difference about the sublimation printing and the screen printing in the aspect of application. If you have any needs or questions welcome to contact us. We can provide you with the best quality sublimation printing materials and service. Hope this article can be useful to you. Thank you for your reading.

The Common Problems of The Sublimation Printing and How to Avoid Them?

In the sublimation printing process, the necessary material is the digital printer, sublimation paper and the sublimation ink. And the in the usage of them, sometimes we may certainly make some mistakes and ignore them. Then the patterns printed will getting worse. So today I will share you some tips about the common mistakes in the sublimation printing process and how to avoid or solve them.

The Check Problems of The Print Head
If the color of your image is off.  For example, if your image has a red tint, or other color tints, there’s a high chance that it is because your print heads are not firing properly in your sublimation printer. So we suggest daily print head checks to prevent virtually all clogs.
Then how to solve this problem? Very easy , If your print head  check isn't perfect, just clean your nozzle head through your OEM printer driver or through the power driver that you downloaded. And then, perform another nozzle check.  Sometimes it may require more than one head clean to clear the clog.

The check of the right printing side of your sublimation paper
Sublimation requires special sublimation paper for the sublimation inks to release properly when heated.  It is easy to mix up sublimation paper with normal paper as they are both white and feel very similar to one another.  Most standard sublimation papers are only coated on one side (however there are some that are coated on both sides).  You can compare the two sides of the paper to tell sublimation paper and plain paper apart.  The coated side is usually brighter than the uncoated side.  With plain papers, both sides will be the same brightness.
Then I have a detailed introduction about how to distinguish the right printing side of the sublimation paper. What ever the roll size or the sheet size sublimation paper. You can click the following picture to read the article.

Use the right sublimation transfer ink
Sublimation is an easy to learn method to print onto a variety of substrates including 100% polyester clothing, bags, ceramic mugs, tiles, plaques, etc.  But the instructions have to be followed accurately to achieve consistent results.  Also the setup of your sublimation printer has to be correct.  If you accidentally installed the OEM inks that came with your printer instead of sublimation inks, your patterns would getting worse.

Follow the instructions for your product
Most imprintable blanks will come with their own instructions.  Please follow them carefully.  Each type of blank may have a different set of instructions.  If unsure, please confirm the instructions with your vendor.

These above is my share about the common mistakes and how to avoid or solve it. Hope it can be useful to you. Of course if you have any needs or some better suggestions welcome to contact us at any time. We will provide you with the best quality product and service. Thank you for your reading.

What is The Difference between The Sublimation Printing And The Screening Printing in Application?

Hi, Nice to see you. If you have read about my article before you must have a detailed understanding of the sublimation printing already. But have you heard about the screen printing and do you know what's the difference between the sublimation printing and the screen printing? Come and reading this article , today I will have a introduction about them and tell the difference.
Firstly, have a brief about the screen printing.  The principle of screen printing is: printing plate (paper version or other version of the foundation to produce through the ink hole) in the printing, through a certain pressure to the ink through the hole version of the hole transferred to the substrate (paper, ceramics Etc.), the formation of images or text.
Printing through the squeegee, so that the ink through the graphic part of the mesh transferred to the substrate, the formation of the same as the original manuscript. Screen printing equipment is simple, easy to operate, printing, plate making simple and low cost, strong adaptability. Screen printing applications Wide range of printed materials are: color oil painting, posters, business cards, binding cover, commodity signs and printing and dyeing textiles.

Then, compared with the screen printing, what's the special of the sublimation printing.
Dye-sublimation print on polyester material does not affect the hand of the material and is more desirable than screen printing for home furnishing and wallpaper fabrics and the apparel industry. The colors are very vibrant, do not wash out and the process is less messy than screen printing, which requires messy solvents and dyes.Sublimation is also very popular with sportswear manufacturers as many printed uniforms (cycle wear, soccer, basketball and lacrosse) on the market today are done via sublimation. Unlike screen printing, where the sublimation ink lays on top of the garment, the sublimation process produces permanent images that will not crack or fade.
Dye-sublimation is also cost efficient and very popular for short-run customisation of fabrics. Special logos, pictures and designs can easily be created or scanned into the computer. Sublimation Transfer paper can be generated and custom prints finished in a matter of minutes as opposed to screen printing, which requires lengthy time for preparation of the stencil and assembly of the mesh fabric.

So compared with the screen printing you can see that the sublimation printing has many advantages.Firstly, it can highly help you save your time and cost, then it can improve your efficiency. Then the patterns cab be more vividly and it can be stored for a long time. You can even DIY your own favorite patterns with the sublimation printing technology.
Okay, These all above is my introduction about the sublimation printing and the screening printing. If you have any questions or needs welcome to contact us at any time.We will provide you the best service and products.Thank you for your reading.
