Do You Know When to Use Sublimation Transfer Printing - and When Not To?

Hi~ Good afternoon, my dear friends! Today is cloudy in Nanjing and feel very cool. Now come into today's topic. Sublimation transfer printing is wide used in our daily life. But this technology is not suitable for anything, you should clear know when to use it – and when not to. Now read and follow my this article, I will tell you more.

Designs that work well with Sublimation printing
The method works particularly well on quirky, dramatic and almost ridiculous designs- a massive trend over that last couple of years, seen in both high and low end stores.

Now this T-shirt probably fits under quirky, dramatic AND ridiculous, and sublimation printing has allowed for the full effect to take place. The T-shirt is completely covered by design and uses a vibrant range of colours.
The repeated design below also works well, again because of the full coverage aspect of the design, the pattern of the print is carried on all around the T-shirt, just using the ends of the garment as natural finishing points.

Another type of design that works particularly well with sublimation printing, is photography prints. The method allows you to fill the whole surface with the photograph, instead of just placing it on the front of the garment in a rectangular fashion.

Sublimation also works well when your garment requires a number of different logos or designs. With traditional printing, you may be charged for each separate logo application – whereas, with sublimation, a large number can all be incorporated and printed in one go.

Designs that don’t work with Sublimation Printing

Designs with block colours or designs that require excruciatingly exact placement may not work as well with sublimation printing. With designs that involve slogans, DTG (direct to garment) printing can work better. DTG printing is essentially like using a normal printer, but just for T-shirts. So the garment is ran through a special flatbed printer and the designs are applied.

If you only need one logo in the centre of your garment, sublimation may not be the ideal way to go, purely because it’s generally more expensive to ‘print all over,’ than it is to apply one logo front and centre.

It’s important to note that, when using Sublimation printing, the finish is smooth and a part of the fabric. If you’re picturing a shiny vinyl finish (like a RUN DMC T-shirt) you should choose screen printing or something similar.

One of the keys to using sublimation printing effectively is knowing the methods limitations and picking a design wisely. Please know more knowledge about sublimation printing you can visit www.feiyuepaper.com. And know the pros and cons of sublimation printing you can visit last article. We can help you to be able to decide if the design you have in mind would work with sublimation printing, or if you are better off choosing DTG or screen printing.

Whis is Sublimation Printing? Do you Know the The Advantages and Disadvantages of it?

Hello, good afternoon, my dear friend! What is "Sub-li-what-now?!"? Today's topic is about sublimation transfer printing. If you’ve ever wondered what this strange-looking word  actually means – then wonder no more. it’s a high-tech printing process for apparel. Today we’re going to pick it apart – we’ll cover what it is, how it works, discuss the pros and cons. please read this article follow me!

What is sublimation?

Let’s start with the broad strokes. What exactly is sublimation?
In simple terms, it’s a method of printing that transfers a design into a material or fabric using ink and heat.

In the world of apparel, it’s a game changer in that it allows whole garment prints – designs that go seam-to-seam.

The Sublimation Printing Process
So how does it work? Well, sublimation printing uses heat to essentially bring sublimation transfer ink and fabric together as one.
First, a design is printed onto special paper. The inks that are used turn into gas when brought under heat, then combine with the fabric and permanently print onto the fabric. The effects are permanent and less prone to fading, as the sublimation ink is embedded in the fabric or substrate rather than simply laying on top like a normal print.

The process is almost like a tattoo, but instead of for your skin, it’s for your chosen product. The heat opens up the pores of the fabric, then with the applied pressure the dye sublimation ink cools and returns to a solid form.
The result is a permanent, full colour image that won’t crack, peel or wash away from the substrate, the process allows the ink to go from a solid to a gas without turning to liquid, a bit like dry ice, the conversion is initiated by the heat and controlled by pressure.

This quick and effective digital print method is growing in popularity for smaller batch orders and those designs that rely on the details. The process is also known as ‘all over printing’ as it allows you to choose a design that can literally go from seam to seam.

The advantages and disadvantages of sublimation printing
The Advantages
The most exciting upside when it comes to this method is purely the freedom you have with your designs, which is not always offered by other methods.

On one side of the spectrum you can go as crazy as you like. Why not print a whole T-shirt that looks like a burger? Or a cat flying across (a beautifully printed) galaxy background?

Equally, you might want to keep it classy with a photo of a famous skyline or landscape. The possibilities are almost endless, which will keep you coming back for more.

The longevity of the design is a plus point, with a design that won’t crack, peel or fade. Even after going through the washing machine countless times, your garment will never be demoted to the back of your wardrobe!
Sublimation printing is suitable for small batch orders, seam-to-seam designs and garments with a large number of design variations and applications.

The Disadvantages
The Cons lay mostly with the choice of materials. Sublimation printing is only suitable for garments that include polyester (100% polyester or polyester blend). Although sublimation is possible on other materials such as cotton, the image will not be permanent as it is on ‘man made’ fabric and it isn’t recommended.
If you wanted to go for the vintage/distressed look, which is all the rage right now, choosing a fabric with a lower percentage of polyester in it would give you that finish.

Another potential problem to watch out for is white creasing. Sublimation works by printing a design into white fabric, and if there are areas of the garment that are unreached by the design, they’ll stay white. This can be caused by accidental folding or small amounts of moisture that accumulate on the transfer paper.

Okay, this all I tell you about the sublimation printing, if you want know more, please contact us online at any time.

Have You Know How to Use Sublimation Printing Technology to Make One Retro Jersey?

Hello, nice to see you again, my dear friends! Have you know how to use sublimation printing technology to make one retro jersey? May be someone doesn't know! Let's read my this article, I will tell clearly.

DESIGNING YOUR RETRO JERSEY
As you are looking at the Feiyuepaper website, we sale many mertrial of sublimation printing, and tell you how to use it.

First of all, you should make a design. The design process for retro jerseys generally starts with an idea sparked from trawling through your extensive archive of old books, magazines and photographs. We then carefully choose the jersey design that we want to bring back to life, with the help of head designer, a design for the jersey is then produced showing the exact layout of the panels, the logos, zip choice, cloth badges, labels etc
After a few iterations, everything is approved and the order can go into production.

DIGITAL PRINT OF THE DESIGN
Since the late 1980's, jerseys have been primarily made from a polyester mix with the process of applying the colour to the white polyester fabric called dye-sublimation printing.

As you would expect, different manufacturers use different printing methods dependant on the quantities you are talking about. For example, if you are getting a very short run produced (small club custom jerseys), then a digital print would be used whereas if you are getting hundreds of the exact same jersey produced the older and more accurate method of offset printing would be preferable.

The traditional offset printing produces a higher quality print as it is far more stable because it uses single solid inks to produce colour, but unfortunately it only becomes cost-effective at high volume.

Whereas the Digital printing method uses plotters that have to mix colours to produce the different colours which can sometimes lead to differences in colour unless they are maintained and calibrated correctly.

Skyimage use specially manufactured, environment-friendly heat activated inks/dyes that are then fixed by heat and pressure into the polyester. The images from the design process are printed on a heat-resistant sublimation transfer paper and as a mirror image of the final design. The printed sheets of paper are dried and ready for sublimation.

CUTTING & SUBLIMATION PROCESS

The fabric is cut into the various panels (you can see the cutting pattern in the before the printed transfer papers are then placed on top of it and when pressure and heat are then applied using a heat press - typically 180-200°C for 35-60 seconds.

The physical process of sublimation is when the dye sublimation ink is sublimated into a gas state that then binds with the fibres of the fabric creating a virtually inseparable bond. That inseparability is relative to heat, so if you took the finished print and subjected it to a temperature source - water or gas - equivalent to the original sub process the ink could sublimate again destroying the design.

The sublimation print process is complete when the paper is removed. Sublimation permanently fixes the logos/colours/graphics to the polyester fabric and the print cannot be scratched or washed out. It becomes part of the fabric.

After this, I believe that you know how to for next step. If you have any other needs or questions welcome to contact us at any time. We will provide you the best quality product and service. Hope my article can be useful to you. Thank you for your reading.

How Sublimation Works & What Factors Will Affect Sublimation Printing Cost?

Hi~ good afternoon, my dear friends. As we know, dye sublimation printing with wide application. Such as transfer printing on banner, textile, cloth, mugs and so on. There are many types printing, from small and medium to established printing businesses, all types of businesses have achieved fantastic print results due to dye sublimation printing. The sublimation printing process offers a multitude of benefits over traditional printing processes.

What are advantages of sublimation printing?
Simply put, dye sublimation process creates stunning final products that have smooth finishing. In addition, the final prints do not crack, wear off or fade, even after repeated use.

Most importantly, dye sublimation helps businesses produce ensure large-scale production, while reducing overall operational costs.

Dye sublimation printing: How it works
Before we analyze the cost of sublimation process, it is important to understand how it works. Generally speaking, sublimation refers to a process during which solid particles change into a gaseous state, without becoming a liquid.

During dye sublimation printing, the solid particles of sublimation ink change into a gaseous state under controlled heat and pressure. Thereafter, the gaseous particles stick to the fibers of the substrate (a base material on which an image is transferred).
Once the substrate is removed from the heat source, it cools down. The dye particles are embedded into the substrate.

When it comes to the cost of dye sublimation printing, there is no one-size-fits-all answer for this. Based on the type of substrate, the overall printing costs vary from one business to another.

One of the most important things about dye sublimation is that you will use a polyester material as your substrate. Polyester can withstand the heat during the sublimation process. Hard items, such as mugs require a polyester coating before they can be sublimated. Do you know what factors will affect sublimation cost?

Here are some factors that will affect your total printing costs:

The printer you use: You need an Inkjet printer for sublimation process.
Heat transfer machine: A heat press is used to convert the sublimation ink (on paper) to the substrate you want to decorate. To ensure high quality dye sublimation, it is imperative that you use a good quality heat press.

Dye sublimation paper: From normal to full sticky to fast dry, different papers have different prices.

Dye sublimation ink
Business costs: Other costs include packaging, labor, delivery and shipping.

What do You Need When Start a Sublimation Transfer Printing Business?

Hi, good afternoon, my dear friends! Today is very hot in Nanjing. Have you remember last article? That is about sublimation printing & heat press. And today, I want to share the article to some new man who want to start sublimation transfer printing business. If you want to start sublimation printing, do you know what do you need? Read the following and I will share you carefully.

Sublimation inkjet printers
Sublimation compatible printer You must have a dedicated sublimation printer that is compatible with the available cartridges. Currently, these include MIMAKI, ORIC, Ricoh & Epson printers and a wide variety of large format printers.

Sublimation inks
Sublimation inks aren't quite the same as standard inkjet ink - they are available in the usual cartridge form, or in some cases, bulk ink liters. Sublimation ink must be heat activated for the colors to fully brighten and transfer into the item due to the chemical make-up of the ink. Because it is different from standard inkjet ink, however, you must use a specialized printer driver, software, or color profile embedded within the document for correct output. This is something that only the manufacturer of the ink can develop and provide for you, which is why it is important to buy dye-sublimation ink from a quality supplier.

Sublimation paper
Sublimation paper is necessary for the ink to transfer onto the substrates; it is designed to release as much as the printed image as possible from the sheet. We offer an all-purpose sublimation paper, a paper created specifically for use with sublimation inkjet printers and rolls of wide-format sublimation paper.

Sublimation heat transfer machine
Heat press or silicone press wraps Since sublimation requires such a high level of temperature and pressure, you must use either a heat press to press the item or a silicone wrap within a conventional oven to press the item. A commercial heat press will be the most efficient way of sublimating most of our items, but some items with a unique shape such as the pet bowls and shot glasses must be sublimated using a wrap in a conventional oven.

Color correction software
Color correction software or color profile Since sublimation ink is not the same as the intended inkjet ink for the printers it often runs through some form of correction for the color differences that are needed. Users must install and use an ICC color profile that is used with a design program that is able to manage color settings, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or CorelDraw.

Sublimation blanks
Sublimation blanks are items that are specifically coated to receive the inks. You can also transfer onto white polyester fabric or fabric-topped items. You cannot sublimate onto cotton or dark fabrics -- colored garments can be sublimated onto, but bear in mind that since the ink is slightly transparent, your transfer/image will take on the shade of the shirt color below it, and may result in a poor result. There are sprays on the market designed for home users to coat their own items to be sublimated upon, but in our testings, we have not found the results to be consistent in coverage or durability.

Okay, These all above are my share about what you need when start sublimating printing business. If you have any other needs or questions welcome to contact us at any time. We will provide you the best quality product and service. Hope my article can be useful to you. Thank you for your reading.

Sublimation Transfer Printing VS Heat Press, Know the subtle difference of them

Hi~ nice to see you again, dear friends. Today is cloudy in Nanjing, but also feel very hot! Have you remmenber the topic of last week? It is about the relationship between sublimation transfer printing and digital inkjet printing. Then today I want to talk about what is difference between sublimation transfer printing and heat press. There are many people can't understand clearly of them. Please read this artical, I will share you the subtle difference of them.

What is Sublimation transfer Printing?
Sublimation transfer Printing

Initially invented for the plastic items printing like the sheets, awards, etc., the sublimation printing technology has been used for a long time now. In this digital printing method, bonding is made on the material on a molecular level.
In the sublimation transfer printing, dye sublimation ink and a sublimation paper are used to do the printing work. Microfiber, polyester, etc. like materials are best printed using the dye sublimation technology.

What is Heat Press?
In the heat press printing, pigment ink and a transfer paper are used to do the printing job. Including the cotton and polyester, you can use any kind of material to apply the heat transfer technology. It is a similar kind of method of a screen printing or a DTG (Direct to Garment) printing.

Differences of sublimation printing VS heat press
Prints made by the sublimation technique, have permanent and realistic images which are having soft feelings on hands. When you use the heat transfer technique, heat is transformed through the light based paper and sticks on the fabric.
The sublimation method uses the sublimation ink, while the heat transfer method uses pigment ink, dye ink, solvent ink, etc.

Though the heat transfer technology can be applied to all types of materials, mostly it works perfectly for the 100% cotton fabric. While the sublimation technology is widely used for polyester, banner, and hard surface like a mug, aluminum pot, etc. kinds of materials.

The sublimation printing uses less pressure and temperature than the heat transfer method & prints in less than 1 minute of time.
The objects with sublimation printing have permanent, high-resolution printings which do not peel, while the prints through the heat transfer process are having some different appearance than the surrounding fabric.

The sublimation printing machine has easy setup process and also has a low cost of maintenance.
A dye sublimation printer has a longer lifespan than the heat transfer printing machines

The last:
Both the technologies are useful, beneficial, affordable, and the printing can be done with simple-to-follow steps. So, the choice is yours. But I suggest getting the heat transfer printer if you are only sticking with the garment printing business. If you are going to work on other things like ceramic printing, plastic printing, tiles printing, etc. then go for the sublimation inkjet printer.

Okay, these all above are my share about the difference of sublimation printing and heat press.I believe that you can differ from them after read this artical. If you have any other needs or questions welcome to contact us at any time. We will provide you the best quality product and service. Hope my article can be useful to you. Thank you for your reading.

Sublimation Transfer Printing VS Digital Inkjet Printing, Do you Know Their Relation?

Dye sublimation printing of fabric banners and displays as compared to the items, or substrates, printed using an inkjet digital printer.
Do you know features of sublimation transfer printing?
Inkjet Printers
Large Format inkjet printer in our business is typically at least 30 inches wide, but go up over sixteen feet in width, and these can be used as dye sublimation printers as well, although not generally interchangeably without flushing feed lines and some other technical “fixes” that need to be done before being able to convert from one type of ink to a dye ink set.

For one thing, CMYK or four color process printing done with ink on an inkjet printer actually uses the 4CP ink set CMYK (short version of cyan-magenta-yellow-black), in contrast to the dye set used when printing in preparation for dye sub printing. The dye set is termed CMYO, which is short for cyan-magenta-yellow-overprint clear, where the dye is printed to a treated transfer paper, and in the heat transfer process becomes the black color.

Dye Sublimation Printers
Unsuitable Substrates or Unprintable Items

So, first, let me tell you what dye sublimation printers are NOT used for. They are not used for natural fiber fabrics such as cotton, linen, or bamboo. They are also not used for direct to fabric printing or what is erroneously called direct sublimation printing, which is really inkjet to fabric printing, or DTF (direct-to-fabric) printing (another term is DTS, or direct-to-substrate).
Dye sublimation is typically not used for materials like PVC (vinyl) decal stock or banner materials, as inkjet printing works fine as a surface print for these materials. Dye sublimation is generally not used for rigid plastics like styrene or polyethylene as flatbed digital UV printing is mostly used for this type of printing. Other rigids such as MDO plywood or heavier plastics are also printed on the flatbed UV inkjet digital printers.

Suitable Substrates or Printable Items
Large Format Dye Sublimation PrintingWhat dye sublimation is used for. With a special polymeric coating, there are many items that can be printed with the dye sub print process such as cups, metal or even wood plaques and awards, or anything else that can be inserted into a flatbed heated press.
And, of course, fabric. Polymer-based fabrics such as nylon or polyester can be printed using dye sublimation heat transfer from the treated transfer paper by printing a mirror image on the paper, matching it to the fabric, and sending it through heated pressure rollers.

The Printing Process
This process, like the flat press described above, converts the dye into a gaseous state and impregnates the heat-opened polymer cells with color, which, after the heat and pressure are gone, close in around the dye, leaving the color permanently as part of the fabric. This not only creates durable color, it also creates almost photographic quality continuous tones that are brighter and more colorful than an inkjet printer can normally achieve.

Okay, this is the differences the I told to you! Our characteristic is “one-stop sublimation printing solution”, as far as possible to make customers more convenient and save worry.
